About Ben – Gundogs
Ben Carter’s love and enthusiasm for dogs goes back to his early years growing up on a smallholding with spaniels and HPR’s.
In his teenage years Ben completed his level 3 in game keeping and countryside management. This is when Ben acquired his first dog, a Spaniel named ‘Meg.’ She was soon accompanied by ‘Tek’, a Labrador retriever. In his early career whilst undertaking roles as a game keeper, his love and understanding of the working gundogs and what they are capable of grew and grew.
Despite following a different career path, setting up and running a successful but unrelated business for more than 20 years Ben’s love of country pursuits has remained. Over the last 20+ years Ben has gone on to train over 15 of his own dogs for the shooting field, and although they are highly trained, dedicated, working dogs, they can equally be found indoors in front of the fire curled up with the dachshunds. Ben says they are his pets with a purpose.
In 2022 Ben was lucky enough to be accepted on to Lez Grahams 18 month course to become an “accredited pet gundog instructor” over the duration of the course Ben’s knowledge of the “why” and “how” of dog training expanded along with his understanding of canine anatomy, behaviour, dietary requirements and much more.
On successful completion of the course in 2023 Ben became the pet gundog accredited instructor for Cambridgeshire and received his Level 3 certificates in:
- Canine Training and Behaviour
- Canine studies
- Canine Nutrition
